My name is Sh. Naseri. I’m a recent high school graduate girl living in Afghanistan. I have developed strong English proficiency within two and a half years, and in the past two years, I participated in various online programs such as leadership, public speaking, storytelling, creative writing, and Global STEM, which focused on sustainability, among many others. I loved communicating with people from different countries through networks, exchanging knowledge, skills, and cultures. I also worked on various projects with them, collaborated in different teams, and even managed a small project which was an online club for girls in Afghanistan.

Most of my friends know me as a driven, hopeful, and trustworthy girl. My story began when an explosion rocked my school, taking the lives of many friends and classmates. There were some passionate girls in my class at school. We all had beautiful dreams and goals for our future, not only for ourselves but also for most of the girls in our community. We wanted to make a large company in Kabul, Afghanistan, where all the workers would be girls and women. It would be a great opportunity for the girls and women. We envisioned managing our own company together, having our own network space, and creating our own computer and mobile applications. We wanted to design and build our own web pages. For this reason, we all chose the major of computer science and I myself truly love IT, because I believe this major can help me reach my dreams.

After losing them, I felt like I had lost my dreams too. I was in a very bad mood for a month. But after that period, I decided to pursue my dreams, not only for myself but also on behalf of them. Because it was a dream we all shared. So I worked hard to improve my English language skills and develop other abilities as well.

It’s a dream that constantly pushes and inspires me to stand up and move forward to reach my goals, even in the most difficult situations. When things get tough, I often use one of my skills, drawing, which I’m really good at. I jot down my ideas and feelings on paper, and this helps me relax. This is all about my dreams and why I’ve chosen this field. Lastly, I want to tell all the girls in my community to pursue their dreams, never give up, and go for them.
