My name is N. Popal; I am a medical student with 4 years of practical experience in my field. And I am the co-founder of Afghan Volunteer Girls association, a charity organization for needy people. With just three semesters left to graduate, my bachelor’s degree in medical school is on hold. Moreover, my government does not seem to be planning to open universities for us girls anytime soon, so I aim to get educated abroad. This year on the first of June I was honored to be one of only two students eligible for partial scholarships offered by a college in New York State for Fall 2024. However, the remaining tuition fee and other expenses, excluding accommodation, amount to $15,700 per year. To assist with accommodation, I have created an AU world profile to find a suitable host family.
In 2019, I led a COVID-19 health awareness campaign at my university campus and educated over 100 attendees on virus protection and hygiene methods. Moreover, I distributed handmade masks to all of them as an appreciation for attending. Later, my faculty praised me for this work by giving me three medical reference books. I had worked in an educational organization as a volunteer biology tutor for 6-9th grades for a year. Right now I am working as a co-founder and volunteer of another charity organization. Furthermore, I am doing an internship doing ultrasounds, stomach, and pelvic examinations.
I provided exceptional obstetrical nursing consultations to 100+ women, significantly impacting maternal health and the well-being of the community. Moreover, I was an English language tutor and boosted the fluency and confidence of students. From 2019 to 2022, I managed the front desk operations and assisted students with inquiries as a library receptionist at my university. I significantly improved user satisfaction and library efficiency.
Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to a diverse set of skills that have shaped who I am today. From learning various strokes of swimming, to the freedom of driving and cycling, I’ve embraced each challenge with determination and passion.
My ability to interpret and communicate in six languages has not only broadened my horizons but also deepened my understanding of the world. In February 2024, I took the Duolingo English Test and achieved a score of 130, which reflects my readiness to begin education outside the country. This multilingual skill has been a cornerstone of my success in public speaking and social media management, where I connect with diverse audiences and craft compelling narratives.
In addition to my language skills, I earned a commendable 2nd position in an English essay writing competition with over 70 participants. This achievement underscores my proficiency in writing and my ability to express complex ideas clearly and effectively.
In the digital realm, I’ve honed my skills in photo and video editing, and recently, I designed my very first website within a month, experimenting with creativity and technical prowess. Each project has been a testament to my commitment and innovative spirit.
